USS Midway Museum – Shore Power Electrical Service

This project expanded the electrical shore power capacity to 3,000kVA for the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum. The additional electrical power is used to feed the Bob Hope Theater and air conditioning for additional spaces within the ship yet to be utilized.

BSE prepared construction documents, specifications and cost estimate for the project, which involved constructing a second electrical substation on the Navy Pier with an additional 1,500kVA 480 volt isolation transformer. Five additional 480 volt 400 amp power cables were routed between the pier and the ship and connected to the ship’s receptacles. A new electrical room was constructed on the ship for distribution to the theater and other loads. BSE coordinated with SDG&E for the installation of a 4,000 amp 480 volt service to the shore power switchgear.
